The Essay
The Essay is an expression of oneself, feelings, and analysis of a certain subject. It defines as an analytic or interpretative literary composition usually dealing with its subject a limited or personal point of view.
Essayists write for their pleasure, Alexander Pope, William Faulkner, Ralph Waldo Emerson, G.K. Chesterton, Helen Keller, and of course Sir Francis Bacon made some exemplary pieces for the movement of nation. Whatever the writer’s purpose and his substance, the essay should be pure and interesting and shows the virtue of the writer.
There are two kinds of essays: personal or informal essays and impersonal or formal essays. A personal essay is written in casual, conversational style. A formal essay is carefully organized and more serious than a personal essay.
Michel De Montaigne, a French writer, created the personal essay. The word comes from Essais meaning to attempt (1580).
Sir Francis Bacon, an English philosopher developed formal essay, chief of his major works was Essays (1597), a collection of essays that explain how to lead a sensible life.
Today, we have essayist around the globe that makes a big impact in imparting ideas, as we deal to the ever changing technology. We have had move many ideas and drawing conclusions every now and then, conflicts, politics, economy, and environment, these are all the subjects of criticism, although some are product of premature opinion, but definitely it boils down to the mantra of self expression, and it is a single right, yes, a right that every human must possess.
Locally, we owe to the likes of Jose Rizal, Nick Joaquin, Carlos Bulosan, Claro M. Recto, Justice Isagani Cruz, and many more, one of my favorite next to Pepe and Nick, is Conrado De Quiros. A brilliant and courageous man, who is swifter than eagle and stronger than a lion, his mind talks about the reality, the struggle, the blind, the naïve, and the radical. Life to him is so simple, but becomes complicated when people decay the system, thus affects the nation.
Hoping more to read the kind of his, it always foretold the tomorrow’s destruction as men continuously puncture the minds of the innocent others with fake, very self-serving and capricious intellect.
